Julia Robert's Make Movie at Bali

Sony Pictures Entertainment will later this year film the Bali scenes of the screen adaptation of Elizabeth Gilbert's best selling autobiography, Eat, Pray, and Love (EPL). Julia Roberts stars, as the book's narrator, and Brad Pitt and Dede Gardner will produce the film.

The Balinese provincial government confirmed on Friday it had issued the permits needed to shoot the film, with Roberts being scheduled to appear on set from Oct. 16 to Nov. 6.

The movie based on Pushcart Prize winner Elizabeth Gilbert's spirituality/travel memoir, “Eat, Pray, and Love” is about her self-discovery and soul-searching after her nasty divorce, exploring through Italy, India, and Bali, the last paradise on earth. After reveling in cuisine in Italy and exploring spirituality in India ashram (hermitage), she will find a balance between worldly pleasures and divine ascendancy in Bali where she will study with a ninth-generation medicine man and immerse in a love affair.

Director, Ryan Murphy, is currently scouting locations in Gianyar, Karangasem and Jimbaran, with much of the filming planned around the hillside village of Ubud. The shoot is planned to take place at the traditional markets and Monkey Forest in Ubud, along with the nearby villages of Demayu and Tegalalang, and in Badung, Uluwatu and Nusa Dua.

Best Ubud View

Ubud is around 45 minutes drive from the international Ngurah Rai Bali. Ubud is picturesque township and visitors have been attracted by its charm and beauty for decades.
The Ubud of today is far from undiscovered. Hotels are plentiful; home stays and Indonesian guesthouses (losmen) are easily available to the foreign tourist. Ubud is popular in part today because it is the best place in Bali to break out of the tourist mode and get off the beaten path.

Ubud is attractive to tourists for a variety of reasons. On a relatively small island with a horde of attractions, Ubud is centrally located; many tourists simply base their entire stay in the city and travel to other destinations from Ubud. Accommodations in Ubud are also somewhat more reasonably priced than in the beach towns of Bali. But atmosphere is perhaps the major attractions. One writer sums it up this way: Kuta is madness, Sanur is sterile, and Nusa Dua is culturally isolated; Ubud is the place to go.
