Why Surfing is Good in Bali

Bali surfing is am exciting adventure to break the high wave of the Indian Ocean. Bali provides many places for the surfers to challenge and experience the sea world and having fun during your vacation. With the easy access road to the surfing point, it will make your interest to experience this great adventure. the Indian Ocean own specific characteristic wave that makes Bali well known as good place for surfing holiday by all surfers in all over the world. Firstly, Kuta Beach is the pioneer of Beach that many surfers have experienced the wave of this famous beach in Bali . Kuta also provides Surfing Course where you may learn how to surf with the complete facilities and professional instructor.

Surfing in Bali began in the 1930s; when American Bob Koke, a Californian, who had moved from Hawaii, with his wife Louise, opened the Bali Hotel on Kuta Beach. Bob had a long board he had brought with him from Hawaii and the rest was history. Surfing didn’t immediately catch on though and lucky old Bob had all the waves to himself (he had the whole Bukit to himself, only he didn’t know it was there). from then on, Bali's top surfing spots have been a major part of Bali's cachet as a top notch tourist destination.

Bali's small size and unique geography means you don’t have to go far to find the surfing conditions you like. The variety of surfing conditions also promises a good time for veterans and newbies alike.

Finally, Bali’s position in the southern Indian Ocean ensures the arrival of swells all year round - a godsend to surfers who desperately need an off-season fix.

Surfing regions in Bali:

You could say that there are 4 basic surfing regions in Bali, West Bali (Medewi), South Coast (Canggu, Gado Gado, Padma, Kuta Beach), the Bukit (Bingin, Balangan, Uluwatu, Nusa Dua, Sri Lanka), East Coast (Ketewel, Keramas), Nusa Lembongan (Playgrounds, Racetracks, Lacerations).

Best surfing breaks in Bali:

The best surfing breaks in Bali as far as performance are Uluwatu which sees good size surf and had 5 breaks. Bingin, which has a short fast barrel, Padang Padang which has a fast barrel and dangerous reef, and Nusa Dua.

When to go:

For the best performance surf, the month of July is said to be the best. During the dry season you get offshore ESE trade winds hitting the western Bukit breaks, slightly cooler water, clear skies and not too much garbage in the water. The beach services (ding repair, vendors etc. ) ramp up during this season. During the wet season there are still places to surf on the eastern side, but generally this is not considered the best season.

Learning to surf in Bali:

The best place to learn to surf in Bali is Kuta / Legian. As with anything, you want to get the basics down, from someone who knows and that doesn’t mean a Bali /Boy who spends all day in the water. Go to a surf school that has teachers who can articulate and know how to teach, not just someone who says “No worries mates, just stand up fast ans she’ll be right.”

Some of the best schools are Bali Learn To Surf in Kuta, Pro Surf and Rip Curl in Legian.

The Kecak dance

The Kecak dance is one of the most famous of Balinese dances, known also as the "Monkey Dance," in which the men of an entire village take part. Originated in the 1930s and is performed primarily by men. It is unusual because it has no musical accompaniment like many other Indonesian dances do, the rhythm of the dance is produced by the chanting 'monkey' chorus. Instead, a troupe of over 150 bare-chested men serve as the chorus, making a wondrous cacophony of synchronized "chak-achak-achak" clicking sounds while swaying their bodies and waving their hands .From that chanting noise of "Cak-cak-cak", then it gave the dance its name Kecak. Hanoman Obong is a chapter from the most famous traditional bali dance "Kecak".

There are two place in Bali have good place performance of Kecak Dance:

Bali Night Party Zones

Bali's main tourist areas have something for everyone. Whatever your tastes, desires and dreams, they are out there somewhere. Bali follows a European approach to the night: the later, the better for night clubbing. So there is plenty of time to shower and relax after a hard day of sight seeing or lying on the beach. And time also to enjoy sunset drinks followed by a leisure dinner.

Night life in Bali starts late, which means around midnight. Many visitors wonder where crowds of expats suddenly come from around 1:00 in the morning – even when all of Kuta has been very quiet during the whole evening, the IN-places often become crowded after midnight.

There's a simple explanation: during the early evenings many of Bali's night owls either still work, visit friends at home, or simply sleep. Most of them visit pubs, bars, or discos only in the early morning hours. Therefore, if you plan a night out don't start your dinner too early. Between 9:00 p.m. and midnight there are not many places we can recommend.

Bali Best Diving Place in the World

Bali's many and diverse dive sites offer an exceptional diving experience for all levels of divers. From protected shallow bays with exotic scorpionfish, octopus and nudibranchs to exciting drift diving in wild currents with sharks, mola mola and manta rays, Bali Indonesia has it all!

What makes diving in Bali different than the other place ?

It is not only world class dive sites, it is a combination of nature, adventure, cultural, religious, and ancient tradition all in one island, the island of God.

How to Dive Bali

Most non-diving tourists base themselves in the urban south in Kuta and Sanur. Unfortunately there aren't any good dives nearby and to base yourself here will mean long and uncomfortable daily journeys to the sites by minibus. We recommend you choose a combination of resorts near to the best sites, in the east, the north west and nearby Lembongan Island, to avoid this unnecessary travel. If you must stay in Kuta, you can always do that after your diving break.

Bali Diving Season

The Bali dive season runs all year round. Overall, the best diving conditions exist from April to December, with sunfish, sharks and other pelagic fish visiting from June to September. December to March is rainy season, reducing visibility in the north and northwest - Tulamben, Amed, Gili Selang, Pemuteran and Menjangan. From June to September dry monsoon winds bring rough seas and nutrient rich upwellings to Nusa Penida, Padang Bay and Amuk Bay.

Bali Dive Places

Tulamben

Tulamben is one of the most famous diving areas in Bali. Tulamben Bay, is situated in the world's richest marine biogeographic zone with more than 2500 different species of fish and 700 corals. Situated on the northeast coast, the bay receives very plankton rich water from the major ocean current that moves from the Pacific to the Indian Ocean and vice versa.

Amed

Amed is located on the northeast coast of Bali, about 2.5 hours drive from Kuta. If you stay overnight at Tulamben it will take approximately 20 minutes to drive there. From a landscape point of view, Amed is much prettier than Tulamben. You will see many rice fields along the way, traditional salt-panning and also sandy beaches as opposed to Tulamben's stony beaches. This reef at Amed was discovered as a dive site in 1984. In April and May 1998, it was badly affected by coral bleaching as a result of El Nino down to a depth of 12 metres. The upper reef is slowly recovering, but it is uncertain when it will return to its original splendour. The deeper reef fared better with the gorgonians and corals untouched.

Menjangan

Located in the northwest of Bali, Menjangan Island is part of West Bali National Park, declared in 1982. Entry and diving on the island is controlled by the Park Service. In 1978 Menjangan became Bali's first internationally recognized diving location due to its beautiful flat reef. In 1997 the extensive flat reef at the island suffered damage from crown of thorns starfish, and in again in 1998 from coral bleaching as a result of El Nino. However the walls for which Menjangan is most famous are still in excellent condition. Although the best diving in Menjangan Island is during the southeast monsoon (April to November) you can dive here anytime of the year, choosing sites on the north or south of the island depending on the direction of the wind. The visibility at Menjangan Island can at times be amazing - probably the best in Bali - especially in October and November with horizontal visibility of 50 metres +. Current here is very rare, even 1 knot of current is unusual around the island.

Padang Bai

Padang Bai, 1.5 hours drive from Kuta / Legian, offers some of the best diving in Bali. Sharks are seen on almost every dive, ocean sunfish are regularly spotted, fish life is exceptionally rich, the coral is healthy and the water is crystal clear. Padang Bai dive sites have strong currents and swell coming from the Lombok Strait, creating unpredictable water movements. This is a place to be both careful and respectful!

The South (Sanur and Nusa Dua Reefs)

The South is the tourist centre of Bali and many travellers spend their time in the area of Sanur, Kuta and Nusa Dua. The diving stretches along the front from Sanur to Nusa Dua, with a depth range of 2 -14 metres. If you don't have the time to visit Menjangan or Tulamben then you can consider diving here as an option but the coral and fish life is not that exceptional compared to the other dive sites around Bali.

Nusa Penida

Located 18km east of Sanur. approximately 30 minutes by boat, Nusa Penida offers the best diving to be found in Bali. Most of the dive sites around Nusa Penida and its two small sister islands, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan, will be drift dives and the current can reach more than 4 knots. Upwellings from the deep water south of Bali keeps the visibility in these areas good but it can also form thermoclines with temperatures dropping down to 22°. Pelagics are the main attraction here and you have a good chance of seeihng jacks, mackerel, tuna, turtles and mantas. Sharks are also common and big mantas are frequently sighted. Perhaps the most unusual pelagic visitor to Nusa Penida is the unique mola mola or ocean sunfish sighted from August to September. This diving at Nusa Penida is suitable for more experienced divers.

Penjor It's one of Balinese great art culture

Every Galungan an Kuningan day and at Odalan Ceremonies, Balineses makes them great art and very originally "Penjor". usually it's putting in fron them houses and Pura, and also at front of streets enter/ "Gapura". We can found it also in many place like Hotels, Villas, Restaurants, or at wedding ceremony places for welcome the Guess.

A penjor is basically a long tapered bamboo pole that is stood vertically in the ground, often on the roadside, and decorated in coconut leaves. Due to their length of sometimes more than ten metres, they droop charmingly over the pavement like an ancient street lamp.

At Galungan time, Balinese Hindus erect a penjor in front of their houses to symbolise the dominance of good (dharma) over evil (adharma), as well as offering thanks to God for the fruits of the Earth. About halfway down the pole they attach a small cage in the shape of a triangle and made from bamboo, called sanggah cucuk. Offerings are placed in this and it is considered to be a temporary “throne” for the Gods when they come down to Earth for Galungan. If you take a close look at a Galungan penjor, you’ll notice that it’s also ornamented with coconut leaves called sampian and also long strips of white and yellow material to symbolise that it is a holy offering.

There many kind of Penjor depend the place culture, different place different Penjor, it is are Balinese community creativity, so thats makes the different.

The cost of making Penjor also in variation, many claim it about hundreds rupiahs, but some claim their penjor cost millions rupiahs.

Kuningan Ceremony

On 24 october 2009 Balinese will celebrate Kuningan day. Kuningan takes its name from the fact that a special offering that is presented in this holyday is yellow rice (nasi kuning) is made by colouring ordinary white rice with tumeric (kunyit). Kuningan occurs once in every 210 days in the Balinese Pawukon cycle (traditional Balinese calendar). The Kuningan Day is the time for commemoration as the ancestors return to the heaven after ten days dwelling on earth and the Balinese express their gratitude to gods for His mercy to the human races.

Kuningan is a special day for ancestor worship since it is the last day of ancestor visit to the earth. On this day the deified ancestor will be suitably entertained and welcomed, and prayers and offerings must be made for them. Those families who have uncremated deceased ones buried in the village cemetery must make offerings at the graves. The Kuningan ceremony must be held before noon, since Balinese believes that the ancestors will ascent back to their respective abode at noon. The ceremony will be held in every Balinese’s family temple (sanggah or merajan). A special offering (Banten Kuningan) is made as a sign of respect to the ancestors. The offering consists of yellow rice (nasi kuning), for Balinese yellow is the symbol of greatness and magnificence. Tamiang (a decorative young coconut leaf arrangement resembles a shield), tar (a decorative young coconut leaf arrangement resembles a weapon) and endongan leaf are obligatory decorations of Kuningan. They are hanged below the roof of shrines and houses. They represent the sense of security and awareness of Balinese in facing the life after Galungan period is over.

Kuningan is a private family holyday the ceremony is within the house compound in the shrines of the family temple (sanggah or merajan). Only those who have family ties will attend the ceremony, unlike the cremations or more public processions of village temple ceremonies.

Best Rafting Moment at Bali

At 18 october 2009 me, my fiends and my family going to take rafting adventure activity at Tukad Yeh Ayung, Sangeh, Bali. It was awsome, I saw a very beautiful river there, and with Ramayana story in balinese style sculpture at the clift walls. It takes two and half hour to finish the rafting adventure. It's very great river, very intertaining and less dangerous. There are seven rafting companies there, at that time I take Bahama Rafting Adventure. First Time we get there we will be informed about what to do at rafting activities and how to get safety. We are using four boats because there are twenty of us. Within the journey of rafting many great sight such as clift, sculpture, villa at the river, restaurant side of the river, etc. At the end of the rafting journey we have lunch together and talkin everything about our rafting experiences there. It's very great rafting experience.

Beautiful Nusa Penida Island at Bali

Nusa Penida, Nusa Ceningan, Nusa Lembongan. Nusa means island. You get here in 40 min by boat. This is the best diving site but it can be tricky sometimes because the currents can reach no less than 5 knots, but usually they are just right for diving. The visibility is always good, 25-40 meters. The reefs outside Toyapekeh at Penida are of world class and well worth a few dives. If you are lucky you will bump into the uncommon gigantic deep sea fish mola mola. Other quite common animals here are manta, shark, large turtles, moray, lionfish and clown triggerfish.

Best Ubud View

Ubud is around 45 minutes drive from the international Ngurah Rai Bali. Ubud is picturesque township and visitors have been attracted by its charm and beauty for decades.
The Ubud of today is far from undiscovered. Hotels are plentiful; home stays and Indonesian guesthouses (losmen) are easily available to the foreign tourist. Ubud is popular in part today because it is the best place in Bali to break out of the tourist mode and get off the beaten path.

Ubud is attractive to tourists for a variety of reasons. On a relatively small island with a horde of attractions, Ubud is centrally located; many tourists simply base their entire stay in the city and travel to other destinations from Ubud. Accommodations in Ubud are also somewhat more reasonably priced than in the beach towns of Bali. But atmosphere is perhaps the major attractions. One writer sums it up this way: Kuta is madness, Sanur is sterile, and Nusa Dua is culturally isolated; Ubud is the place to go.

Happy Galungan and Kuningan

Happy Galungan and Kuningan by BALIwww.com.

On Wednesday, Balinese celebrated Galungan Holyday, a holyday to commemorate the victory of Dharma (virtue) over Adharma (evil). This holyday is considered the pinnacle of Balinese struggle to subdue the negative force of evil, and what is called evil here is the sad ripu (six internal enemies), they are kama (lust), loba (greed), krodha (anger), mada (drunkeness), moha (confusion) and matsarya (envy). It is an inward struggle, a struggle to free our mind from the influence of negative force that at the end leads us to do various bad deeds.
